Lancaster University has a world class reputation as a centre for excellence in research, teaching and scholarship. Ranked as one of the top universities in the world and as a Top 10 UK university (in The Times, Guardian and Complete University league tables), Lancaster continues to sustain and enhance its reputation for teaching and research excellence both nationally and internationally. Lancaster University was rated the highest level of Gold in the 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) and is ranked in the top 5 for the UK for student satisfaction.

As part of an extensive and ongoing investment programme in Cyber Security, the School of Computing & Communications wishes to make a number of strategic appointments at Chair, Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) and Lecturer (Assistant Professor) levels.  These appointments will have the unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and future direction of Security Lancaster, the University’s cross-disciplinary research institute in Cyber Security.

Security Lancaster is one of the four flagship Lancaster Research Institutes and is amongst the current 14 Academic Centres of Excellence in Cyber Security Research recognised by the UK government. It is one of the few multi-disciplinary centres to tackle human as well as technological challenges to cyber security by integrating computing and communications researchers with expertise from social and behavioural sciences.

The Chair in Cyber Security will provide leadership and vision to drive our research and teaching in cyber security, including the opportunity to lead the Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research. The appointment will be at professorial (full or tenured) level.  The aim of this role is to see that research is conducted at the highest international quality and to secure our reputation as world leaders in this field.

We encourage applications from strong and collegiate individuals that complement existing areas of expertise including but not limited to security and resilience of communications networks, industrial control systems (ICS) and Internet of Things (IoT), big data analytics to study security and privacy issues, analysis of human behaviours in the context of security, security and privacy for digital health.

We invite applications from candidates with appropriate specialist cyber security domain knowledge from academia, government or industry. Candidates should have an established international reputation for leadership in their field. Applicants should have a proven ability to develop and direct a team, to secure significant external research funding, and to generate substantial impact. We expect all candidates to be committed educators and to contribute to the development of our portfolio of course, including our international partnerships.
