The Director of Nursing provides operational leadership, governance, strategic direction, and effective management of the nursing and medical services of the Friendly Society Private Hospital ensuring optimal customer satisfaction is maintained through facilitating the provision of high-quality commercial services delivered by a competent and highly engaged workforce. While this position predominantly oversees the Nursing division it also works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Director of Finance Services and Business Ventures and Director of Medical Services & Allied Health in the coordination of medical services within the organisation. As a member of the Executive Management team the Director of Nursing provides advice to the CEO and Board relating to strategic direction, policy development and professional clinical and quality standards, in addition to actively leading a team of professional clinical managers in providing excellence in health care.

To successfully perform in this role, you will be an energetic commercial leader, an experienced operator in the not for profit or private sector who is progressive and innovative with a strong background in end-to-end clinical and business management. In addition to technical knowledge, experience and ability, a strong emphasis will be placed on your ability to demonstrate the organisation’s values of Courage, Diligence, Compassion, Wisdom and Friendliness, as well as your ability to commit to and apply these values in the workplace.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. Tertiary qualifications in Nursing and post graduate qualifications in Nursing Management, Health Administration and/or Business
  2. Demonstrated experience in a senior leadership role involving the management of clinical services, clinical governance, finances, people, quality improvement, organisational change and projects
  3. Proven experience in successfully leading clinical teams and individuals to achieve required strategic and business outcomes in the not for profit or private sector.
  4. Working knowledge of Australian private healthcare systems, hospital processes & protocols, and contemporary healthcare issues, including the competence in applying this knowledge in service delivery.
  5. Working knowledge of computers and IT relevant to the position.
  6. Broad knowledge & understanding of relevant professional standards and legislation
  7. High level interpersonal and communication skills including skills in stakeholder engagement, negotiation, conflict resolution and professionally presenting to small and large groups.
  8. High level of knowledge of HR/IR legislation relevant to the role.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) Requirements

It is a mandatory condition of employment that roles within our hospital require you to be vaccinated, and remain vaccinated during your employment, against some or all of the following vaccine preventable diseases; Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (Chicken Pox), Pertussis (Whooping cough), and Hepatitis.
